The Detroit Chinatown Vision Committee is a volunteer initiative devoted to developing the new Pan-Asian neighborhood surrounding the former Detroit Chinatown location on Cass and Peterboro. The plan will honor the history and contribution of Detroit’s Asian community and provide the amenities a thriving neighborhood requires.
The DCVC was sparked by the July 29, 2023 demolition of the iconic 140-year-old building at 3143 Cass Avenue, the location of the mass meeting that created the American Citizens for Justice (ACJ was formed in 1982 as the first organization in the US to address racial violence outside of the black community), honoring Vincent Chin's death and the historic home of the Chinese Merchants Association.
By collaborating with existing residents and businesses, our community center will support the neighborhood to grow and flourish into a safe and walkable space.
